Everything about Exmouth

The drive from Coral Bay to Exmouth was painless, our shortest journey so far, 150ks. Saw lots of termite nests on the drive. They are amazing and huge!

Massive termites nests, all along the h'way from Coral Bay to Exmouth

We have seen lots of wildlife on the long drive including kangaroos, emus, eagles, goats, cows, (all by the roadside) and sharks and manta rays, plus a few lizards and big bobtail goannas in the campsites. I won’t even start on the birds! Apart from the funny aggressive yellow ones, oh and the pointy headed ones here in Exmouth !

Emus, wandering casually through the campsite, Exmouth

We arrived at the RAC Caravan Park about 10.30 and made the grave error of setting up camp straight away. It was far too hot ! About an hour later and very red faced and sweaty we were able to rest under the pergola. Note to selves - next time just wait until it’s cooler....

Cooling down at the Froth Brewery, after putting up the campsite in the midday sun (rookie move).

Anyway we went into the metropolis, that is the town centre. Spent a very pleasant  time, chatting to the English backpacker, barmaid at the Froth Tavern and enjoying the local brew - I had a delicious Ginger Beer or two!

The Blue Lips Fish and Chippy was closed for vacation (@#$&$#@‘s) so we ran back to the IGA for a hot chicken and got into the Bakery just before it closed.

The RAC campsite is very pleasant, quite spacious and good facilities. I can empty the pee pot without having to walk sereptiously through other people’s camp sites, so that’s a bonus! We are also entertained by the occasional emu, wandering through the park.

The town was smaller than expected and lots of the cafes were closed for the off season. Huh, how hard can it be to get fish and chips in Australia - bloody hard as it turns out.

We visited the National park ($13 entry per car) and spent the afternoon snorkelling at Turquoise Bay. The hype was all true, it is amazing. We hired the snorkels from the caravan park, we didn’t bother about fins - but probably should have. Ningaloo is a peninsula so amazing views to be had everywhere.

There are now two breweries, we visited both of course. The newer one had live music. The art gallery was pleasant and we saw two aboriginal artists at work. We made a small purchase.  Apart from that we spent quite a lot of time at either the bakery or IGA.

The people in Exmouth generally wear shoes and have all their own teeth, but they do have some pretty wild beach hair. They are friendly and very laid back. It’s a town to slow down in.

We’re on our way home now. Richie drove 890 k’s yesterday - legend - I bet Idris couldn’t do that! We spent our last night at the Africa Lodge in Geraldton. We finally found some fish and chips, they were so so but we enjoyed them anyway. Only 430 ks to home today - piece of cake.

Wonderful holiday, the camping was a huge success, we’ve got the pack and down streamlined now, a better idea of what we need and don’t need. But as always, looking forward to getting home and seeing fatty😻😻😻. Haven't told her we are off to Malaysia in a month....
